  1. Hints on running FireFighter:

  3. Note:
  4. Two files have been enlarged. Maintenance Comments and Air Bottles comments 
  5. sections have been extended. This in turn will cause problems with earlier 
  6. versions of FireFighter (v2.02> and earlier. If you are using a registered 
  7. version of the program earlier than V2.02 then when the setup program asks 
  8. if you want to change the files answer YES.
  9. Follow the menu directions and you should have your files in the new format.
  10. If for some reason you make a mistake and don't answer YES then you can run
  11. the program datachg.exe from windows. Make sure you are a registered user
  12. and have a registered program version less than 2.03. Look for the version number on the label of the OLD program.

  16. Entering Data:
  17.  
  18. The program will read the win.ini file to get the date settings. If
  19. they are not entered the way the program expects to find them, it will
  20. change the settings in order to run the program.  
  21. Expected format for the dates is: MM/dd/yyyy or dd/MM/yyyy.

  23. When entering Roster names and there are two or more members with
  24. the SAME FIRST and LAST names, you must make one or more of the 
  25. names unique.

  27. eg; (John Smith) if more than one member has this name you could
  28. differentiate between the names using J. Smith John L. Smith etc.
  29.  
  30. NOTE:
  31.  
  32. Version 1.10 and later has a new method for entering the Roster names.
  33. Please read the Help file on "Getting Started"

  36. You can enter anything AFTER the rank as long as the letter 
  37. total (including spaces) is 25 or less. 
  38. Eg; Captain-Training officer.
  39.  
  40. The roster list will be in Alphabetical order until you print
  41. the roster, in which case the printed list will be in RANK order.

  43. If your department members are paid by the 
  44. Incident (rather than by the hour) then start FireFighter 
  45. using FFwin /C. 
  46.  
  47. To do this, open the windows program manager, select "File" and
  48. then select the "Properties" menu selection.
  49. Change the default FFwin.exe to FFwin /C
  50.  
  51. If your department members are not receiving any type of
  52. Honararium or payment for training or incidents, then 
  53. enter $0.00 in the training and incident payment boxes.

  55. Using the Training Modules:
  56. Please read the section "Getting Started" in the Help File.

  59. Using the Mouse:
  60.  
  61. Using the mouse will make FireFighter easer to use.. If you
  62. do not like using the mouse, all menus will work using the
  63. Tab key and <Enter> key where applicable.

  65. If you are using the mouse all windows conventions are
  66. used eg; double clicking etc.

  68. Problem Solving:
  69.  
  70. Although FireFighter for Windows is very straight forward
  71. there are a number of things you should check if you are 
  72. having problems.

  74. If you are having problems with training/Incident or Roster
  75. files, you should check these:
  76.  
  77.    Dates must be entered in the form MM-DD-YYYY
  78.  
  79.    Rank must be entered in the correct form (see above).
  80.  
  81.    Roster First/Last name not unique.
  82.  
  83.    Incident hours not entered correctly.
  84.  
  85. Pressing F1 will show help on any menu.
